Here is a sample part number: 12D15BLC10G

Step 1.

Enter: 10,12, or any single or gradient concentration, example, 420, 1020 etc.

Select Acrylamide Concentration: We will pour almost any single concentration or gradient concentration gel.

12 = 12% single concentration (Specify any single concentration). Single concentration gels with sample wells are provided with a 4% stacking gel layered on top of the resolving gel.
420 = 4%-20% gradient (Pick any gradient you need). Not sure what percent acrylamide gel to choose?

Step 2.

Enter: D,W,N, U,T,A or B.

Select the Gel Type: (more about buffer systems)
D = Tris-Glycine Gels with SDS, (Gel buffer is: 0.375M Tris-HCl, pH 8.8, .1% SDS)
W = Tris-Glycine Gels without SDS (Gel buffer is: 0.375M Tris-HCl, pH 8.8)
N = Tris-Borate-EDTA (TBE), (Gel Buffer is: 0.090M Tris, 0.080M Boric Acid, pH 8.3, 0.0026M EDTA). TBE Gels

do not come with a 4% stacking gel.
U = Urea/TBE Gels ( Same as N Gels, with 7 molar Urea added). TBE/Urea Gels do not come with a 4% stacking gel.

T = Tris-Tricine Gels. Ideal for small proteins from 2.3 to 100 kD. (Gel Buffer is: 1.0M Tris-HCl, pH 8.45, 0.1% SDS).
A = Tris Acetate Gels. Ideal for large size proteins up to 500 kD.

B = Blue Native Gels. New! Ideal for study of protein-protein interactions and very hydrophobic proteins, such as membrane proteins, their complexes and super complexes. (as described by Schagger and von Jagow, Analytical Biochemistry (1991) 199, 223-231)

Step 3.

Enter: 15,10 or 75

Select Gel Thickness:
15 = 1.50 mm thick
10 = 1.00 mm thick
75 = 0.75 mm thick

Step 4.

Enter: HL, BL or BXL

Select your Running Apparatus:
HL =
Fits into GE Healthcare (Manufactured by Hoefer, Inc.) SE400, SE600, Ruby SE600, SE650, SE660, SE700. Available in regular and low fluorescence glass.

BL = Fits into Bio-Rad Protean II, II xi and XL, Protean II XL Multicell, Owl P10DS-1,-2,-3 (Owl requires sponge tips, ST-10). Cassette dimensions: front plate 16cm tall x 20 cm wide and back plate 18.3 cm tall by 20 cm wide. Available in regular and low fluorescence glass plates.

BXL = (longer cassette) Fits into Bio-Rad Protean II xi and XL, Protean II XL Multicell, and Protean Plus Dodeca Cell (for 2D electrophoresis only). Cassette dimensions: Front plate 20cm tall x 20 cm wide, back plate 22.3 cm tall x 20 cm wide. Available in regular and low fluorescence glass.

Step 5.

Enter: C10,C15, C20,C30,C1,C2 or C0

Select the Number of Sample Wells:

C10 = 10 sample wells
C15 = 15 sample wells
C20 = 20 sample wells, for BioRad "BL" or "BXL" (step 4) Gels only.

C30 = 30 sample wells, for BioRad "BL" or "BXL" (step 4) Gels only.

 

C18 = 18 sample wells, for Hoefer "HL" (step 4) Gels only.
C26 = 26 sample wells, for Hoefer "HL" (step 4) Gels only.


C1 = 1 well. The resolving gel is poured 1cm from the top to create a flat top for prep and 2D work (see 2D gels) . The C1 designation does not include a stacking gel.

BioRad Users: Standard Gel width is 16 cm (cassette is 20 cm). An 18 cm wide gel can be obtained by requesting 1.0 cm wide spacers, however, Protean II and IIxi require XL gasket and clamps from BioRad (entire conversion kit not required). C2 = Same as C1 except there is also a sample well (for loading a protein standard) at one end. The C2 designation does not include a stacking gel. The Gels are made with 2 cm wide spacers, which create an 16 cm wide gel minus 1 cm for the sample well. A 14.5 cm long IPG strip would fit.

BioRad Users: Request 1 cm wide spacers to use up to a 17.5 cm IPG strip. The Protean II and IIxi apparatuses require XL gasket and clamps from BioRad (entire conversion kit not required). Click here for more information.

Hoefer Users: Gels will be 13 cm wide if sample well is added.

 

C0 = No sample wells. Gels are poured 3.5 cm from top. BioRad Users: Gels are typically poured using 2 cm wide spacers, thus providing 16 cm wide gels. If an 18 cm wide gel is needed, request 1 cm wide spacers. The Protean II and IIxi apparatuses require XL gasket and clamps from BioRad (entire conversion kit not required). Hoefer Users: Gels will be 14 cm wide.

Step 6.

Enter: G or GLF

Select Glass Cassette for your gels:
G = Glass Cassette (standard glass).

GLF = Low Fluorescence Glass.

Step 7. Enter: all entries from steps 1-6. This is your gel part number. Use it to order gels. 4) Place an Order Copy your entries from steps 1-6 (in that order). This is your part number.
